Hudson is dead, long live JenkinsWednesday January 12, 2011
I was relieved to read that the bizarre saga of Oracle's assertion of their non-rights to the Hudson continuous integration server has been resolved. In a detailed article at hudson-labs Andrew Bayer describes the decision to rename 'Hudson' to 'Jenkins'. Kohsuke and the community were remarkably patient in their attempts to resolve this with Oracle. It's sad that it's come to this, but given Oracle's character, it was inevitable. Oracle is certainly consistent in maintaining their reputation.

Oracle gets to keep the name Hudson, which makes me think... What can they do with a *name* ? The code is open source, they lost the love of the main engineers, they just get to keep the trademark.

Well, the decision is not yet made. They're waiting for Oracle's proposal (hopefully later this week) before polling the community. Seems like we'll have Jeeves before too long, but not today.

James, apologies for the off-topic comment, but I can't find an email address for you. I'm looking for some detailed information on NeWS (no, really!). Please drop me a line if you have any idea how I could find a copy of The NeWS Manual at this late date. Thanks. ObOnTopic: Personally, I think they should have renamed Hudson to "I Can't Believe It's Not Butler!"

I think we will see now two CI server, Hudson and Jenkings. In this case the Open Source version might actually be stronger as the original creator will be involved in the OS version. Lets see who wins. :-)
