On a New Road

Next step on the road...Monday March 28, 2011
Through some odd twists in the road over the past year, and a tardis encountered along the way, I find myself starting employment at Google today. One of the toughest things about life is making choices. I had a hard time saying "no" to a bunch of other excellent possibilities. I find it odd that this time I'm taking the road more travelled by, but it looks like interesting fun with huge leverage. I don't know what I'll be working on. I expect it'll be a bit of everything, seasoned with a large dose of grumpy curmudgeon.

I do hope they fast-tracked you through the interview process, and that G's HR was a little less inept with you than it was with me (over and over)! B^> Anyway, good for J and good for G, and hopefully good for me in due course... Rgds Damon

Posted by pointblank on March 28, 2011 at 03:28 PM PDT #

Congratulations, I can only imagine how hard was it for you turning away offers from other companies, Google included in such list. Exciting times ahead, now that Google has hired Java's creator, don't forget that Guido van Rossum (Python's creator) is on the big G staff as well.

Change your names to Games and Guke, but please don't start Gava. Nothing is fundamentally wrong with Java. It just needs a few small extensions to become mainstream again. Rather convince Google to buy Java from Oracle.

Posted by Sieg on March 28, 2011 at 04:11 PM PDT #

Hi James, I'm proposing a world shaking orientation system to Google, but I didn't find yet the right pioneer for that. Concerning your article about standards: I've invented an orientation standard. I'd appreciate very much if you'd lead this: type volksnav on Utube. Thank you in advance for your return, Henrique, Munich Orientation Convention, www.volksnav.com/actual, volksnav(at)volksnav.de
