Adventures in internationalization

I spent a good chunk of last week fussing with how rocky internationalization support can be. My 100 year old grandmother died and I got the job of dealing with creating notices and recording stuff. Her name was fine (Karólína Margrét Sveinsdóttir) since it only contained conventional European accents. But the place she was living when she left Iceland (Hæðarenda) and her grandmothers name (Karítas Þorsteinsdóttir) were problematic. Enough software failed to handle these that it was pretty awkward. I won't name names, but I did file bug reports.
